On Trend Tuesday: Sustainability

On Trend Tuesday ✨

For our second week, let’s talk Sustainability Shift!

The younger our clients get, the more we see a desire to keep their big day from making a huge carbon footprint! Here’s some examples of ways to make your wedding more sustainable.

Get your wedding attire second-hand!

StillWhite.com, NearlyNewlywed.com, PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com, BravoBride.com, Ruffled.com, and more sites are reputable options to buy and sell wedding attire online. There are often wedding dresses at thrift stores that seamstresses can help with! Can’t find exactly what you are looking for? Try renting! TheBlackTux.com is an excellent option for suits, tuxedos, shoes and other accessories, and wedding dress rental shops have popped up all over instagram!

Stationary and Place Cards

Use recycled paper, or something that can be passed along to another nearlywed - like non-permanent paint marker on acrylic. Write directly on sustainably fallen leaves for a biodegradable option!

Multipurpose Items

Thrifted cups that double as both a drinking glass for the evening and a favor to take home at the end of the wedding!

Favors

This one has a caveat - do not give your guests pre-potted plants or succulents. It makes it difficult for them to drive home with them so many of them get left behind or damaged, or your guests have dirt in their floorboard on the drive home and you are the bad guy in that scenario.

Send-off

Grab a handful of sustainably sources petals or fragrant leaves like rosemary or lavender petals to be tossed. Depending on your venue location, you may also get to use bird seed or just biodegradable confetti!

Vendor Policy

ASK YOUR VENDORS! “What sustainable choices do you offer?” This can be a difficult question for some since they provide something service based as opposed to product based, so keep that in mind. Maybe opt for a digital only Photo Booth like Booth or Dare! Ask your caterer if they can use non-disposable dishes, or if they compost!

Sustainable Decor Choices

As opposed to fresh cut florals, try ones that can be kept alive and repurposed after the wedding!
